ARTAsTIC ARToMATIC!!

This was my first year attending ARTOMATIC which is the month long art show in D.C. Artomatic is in its 10th year of existence so I don't know how I failed to know about it for this long but I'm glad I'm in the know now because these artists are extremely talented and inspiring.

All the photographs you'll see here are photos I took of the art work that was on display. There was a little bit of everything. I dedicate this blog to my Fernie who I wished was here to see this with me and to Crystal who went with me and shared in this experience with me as I ooohed and aaaahed.

I apologize in advance to those of you who got used to my lovely shots taken with the Nikon D60...I'm mourning the loss of it and am working on a replacement the minute I get a job or win the lottery. I hope you enjoy the shots and the creativity and talent through these photos half as much as I enjoyed them live.

I really enjoyed this piece a lot because it was interactive and it brought to light the way women feel about their bodies and how the fashion industry hurts or soothes your soul through the clothes you wear and how you feel about yourself in what you wear. It was powerful to read some of the comments.

Some things change but goofy stays goofy. Although Crystal is smiling a nice pleasant smile inside she's really cooky just like me.

Don't ask questions...just love me for the weirdo I am :)

this was just some fabric hanging on the wall and getting it on the computer it seemed like something so much more to me...this is my interpretation of that piece.

Legomania with a violent creepy mood but I like it!

this piece was one of my favorites. it had a lot going on but I really found a lot of beauty in it.

this is just the truth...sad but so very true.

I took a picture of this picture and you know how i love old cars...couldn't get enough

If you know me you know the significance of this and sitting in a chair has nothing to do with it...

My home and my birth place...Washington D.C. taxation without representation...gotta love it

Anyone who knows me know that I HATE smoking so I very deeply appreciated this sign.

If only I could do this to people in real life and make it seem artistic and not just mean, the title of this for me is "go thata way"

Now this display of photos amazed me. My family is from this area and my parents grew up in Washington D.C. Some of these pictures were from over a hundred years ago, some where from last year maybe but some of them were taken during the Civil Rights Movement and the changes that have gone on in this city amaze me and so did this artists fusion of these worlds.

Another one of my favorite pieces was this one. the colors the mood, the energy...really beautiful...

This is truly beautiful. In real life...it's that much more. The eyes are piercing and the colors are phenomenal.

I just moved into a "new" place and the lock to my bedroom door is hanging by the hinges. This lock reminded me of security and closure and the total opposite of what my lock looks like right now and I took a picture of it in hopes that my lock will one day very soon resemble this one so I can stop getting locked out of my room or locked in it jiggling the handle until it lets me free.

I thought this piece was exceptional. It was called something like "heart strings" and you could feel this piece in your core.

I really liked the picture of this old beat up couch and I loved the hanging lamp above it...think it works...

Thoreau knows what he's talking about...

As we all know very unfortunately last week the legend, Michael Jackson passed away. All I could think about were the days I spent listening to my records of Michael's music growing up and thought how powerful vinyl is and was...there's something about putting on a record.

This is a pretty bad shot because I couldn't get away from the glare from the glass but I loved this piece. Obama might be the first but he's not the last...

I'm not so sure of the significance of this piece but it was done by an Irby and so for that reason alone I have to support it.

Figured I'd finish up with the D.C. flag on vinyl...it's a good look. Can't wait for next year's show...

I believe I object to you not giving me a shout out on this as well as not hitting me to let me know when you were going. lol On the other hand you did give a shout about my boy Michael's Graffiti Gorilla portrait so we're all good now. Have a good day Irby. If anyone is interested in purchasing let me know and I'll pass along contact info. :) Ciao.
