In the Beginning...(Barcelona)

So...I made it to Barcelona! That's half the battle right? Here are some pics of my current digs.

(view from my window)

(See, I'm already moved in...)
I'm living in a residence hall for the first month until I find a room in an apartment somewhere in this lovely city. I initially wanted just one roommate...but as bored as I've been locked in this room with no friends and Spanish t.v. that has channels in German, Catalan, Italian, French and American shows dubbed in Spanish...I definitely think I'm looking forward to having people around. I know this is a change, and I'm not sure that I'll stick to that feeling but for now...I am missing people. I almost asked this random girl in a boutique if she wanted to hang out bc she looked cool haha. I'm sure I'll meet lots of great people, and if not I will speak Portuguese, Arabic and Catalan perfectly, and have read every book possible.

Just because I've moved to another continent doesn't mean that I've managed to become less of a klutz. Last night I blew up my iLuv (alarm clock/iPod speakers) thinking that I could make my lovely gadget work in Europe even though it says it only works with 15V. It definitely started smoking and blew up/out whatever. Of course later, I was playing around with it hoping that if I banged on it enough, and threatened to cry, that it would suddenly start to work...realized it takes 2 little AA batteries and I could've saved myself frustration, $75 and never knowing when to wake up by simply flipping it over...anywho...

Next debacle...After I unpacked and settled in, I was in need of a shower...went into my baby sized bathroom and looked at the shower...it is literally the size of a telephone booth. So I prep myself for that, get in and, less than 5 minutes into my shower...the detachable shower head swings off and smacks me in the face, busting my lip open. I woke up this morning with 4 lips.
:))))

On a prettier note...today I went wandering around the city, getting on and off the metro randomly. I ran across Plaza Catalunya where the famous "Las Ramblas" is. The street is filled with flower vendors, birds, both caged and those nasty little buggers running loose like those reckless pigeons do...street performers and tourists, of course.
(This is what you will find on Las Ramblas)

Off of Las Ramblas is a famous outdoor market where locals buy their fruits, veggies and meats for the week.
The market is amazing!

However, if you are vegan/vegetarian...I wouldn't recommend it, you'd be offended.
Being the carnivore that I am, I thoroughly enjoy the market.

I was definitely freaked out and amazed when I saw fresh seafood out in ice chips...alive. Being a Maryland native, I definitely felt connected to the crabs UNTIL I saw that those little buggers were still moving! as were the oysters, clams, and other random friends of the sea.

I'm trying to figure out the neighborhoods and find places to eat and places to chill but for now...I am still a newbie and sticking close to home at night until I find some cool non-sketchy looking places to go. (happy Mom???)
