lost at Sitges

Pretty castle at the beach Sitges. Sitges is an awesome beach about an hour outside of Barcelona's city center that my amiga here in Barcelona, Linda, found. Barcelona completely shuts down on Sundays, nothing is open...not grocery stores, clothing stores, again...nothing, so it was great to find a place to get out of town to relax. The initial goal was to go to the beach...you know, wear a bikini, frolic in the ocean, get sand in between our toes etc. but we ended up sitting at a cafe sipping on some drinks, getting lost, and watching really cool human configurations in the plaza.

This is what the process looks like...

In Cataluña, especially during festivals, and holidays these human pyramids are common. they are officially known as castellers in Catalan, which means teams. Their motto is: "Strength, balance, courage and reason"...which makes sense since the only things that they can rely on is the strength of the people holding them up, their own balance, courage to climb that high in a crowd full of people, and well...I don´t know where reason comes in because it seems really scary but...it was cool to see.
