This post is LONG overdue because I have been working on the concept of Globally Grounded for months now but now is the time to make it blog official. The Globally Grounded Youth Co-operative is an organization that I started in December 2008. The purpose of the org. is to give young underrepresented high school-age youth the opportunity to become global citizens in a social responsible and self and community rewarding way.
Service, Leadership, Global Experience, Learning and Social Responsibility are major pillars of Globally Grounded.
I studied abroad for the first time when I was 19 years old and I really just stumbled up the opportunity. That first taste of the outside world changed my perspective on life and helped to shape decisions I've made of where I want to be in this world and who I want to impact in my professional and personal life.
I want ALL young people to feel that they have a sound understanding of their world, the people in it, and what different roles they can play in changing the world and making it better for them, their communities and future communities to come.
Globally Grounded has a name. The next step is FUNDING!!!! Where do we get money to pay for youth who have no money to bring to the table but have the heart and the desire to travel their own country and the rest of the world, bringing back knowledge and cultural wealth to their own communities? That's the part I'm working on now. How do you responsibly encourage donations and ensure that you are getting funding for your org. from ethically responsible funding sources?? A LOT of research.
I will be blogging more on the next phases of Globally Grounded and hope to have at least one program designed and ready to launch for Summer 2010.
plant yourself firmly. get GROUNDED.
