long + colorful nails...attractive or atrocious???

So, I was listening to the radio this morning and there was a discussion about whether or not Apple should update the iPhone because it is not a woman-friendly device because it doesn't take into consideration the needs of women with long nails. The iPhone uses a body sensory feature to detect the motions you make. This feature is not affective if you attempt to use your nails instead of your fingers to operate the phone. Women with extremely long nails cannot use this feature as effectively as men or women with shorter nails. Various women called into the station to discuss the matter; some with long nails that said it was difficult to use the device, and others that said it was easier with nails. Should phones cater to women with long nails or should they just cut them down and get over it?

This topic sparked other thoughts around nails for me...

Currently my nails are short and are a pretty electric blue color + it makes me wonder...how attractive or inappropriate people feel certain nail lengths and colors are in the workplace and just getting along in the world???

Should women be deemed 'trashy' for having long or bright colored nails? If you have designs on your nails does it mean that you are tacky, low-class, and 'ghetto'?

Does having say...short nails, with clear polish or the ever popular 'french' manicure (white tips w/a pink nail base for those of you who don't 'do' nails) symbolize class, wealth, and appropriateness, or does it mean that you are a conformist that doesn't like to take changes with fashion, or express your inner flare outwardly?

Where is the line between self-expression and individuality and TACKY???

Is there a length that is appropriate, sexy even? and is there a length that is just plain WRONG? If so...what is that cut off? Is there a color that is outright unacceptable? (black, blue, red, green, what?!) and who gets to determine what that scale of appropriateness is? Is it the corporate world, is it friends, family, partners?

Should a woman or man for that matter, be penalized for wearing flashy nail polish in the workplace?

What do you think is TOO much. What makes nails attractive or atrocious?

It depends on the environment. If you work for a republican think tank, or an old conservative construction company, it's a lot different then working for MTV or for a Marketing/Advertising company.....and I found your blue nails a bit distracting, although not in a negative way, just in a dammmmmnnnn, those are bright kind of way.....
